Kim Tae-Eun
Abstract
This study vividly recorded the meaning and essence of the experience that appeared in the art therapy experience of single women who experienced artificial abortion. Accordingly, van Manen's hermeneutic phenomenology research method was applied. A total of 3 study participants were derived from 7 essential topics and 23 sub-topics through a total of 6 sessions of personal art therapy and in-depth interviews once a week. The conclusion of the study was, first, that the study participants were unable to reveal their experiences due to concerns about social stigma and criticism. However, through art therapy, her expressed honest feelings that had been suppressed by guilt and comforted herself. Second, the inner power of the study participants themselves was found in the art treatment process and accepted their feelings. Third, the study participants changed their future image positively through art therapy, and became an opportunity for internal integration for growth and change. This study is meaningful in that single women who experienced artificial abortion were able to experience art therapy and deal with individual psychological difficulties that could not be dealt with within the social and cultural structure and provided a deep understanding of the experience.
